The primary purpose of an offsider/diamond drill assistant is to support the diamond drill operator in various tasks and ensure that the diamond drill core quality is maintained to the highest level. Active involvement in achieving a safe workplace and positive work environment is a must. This key position will provide an excellent opportunity to further develop skills of an individual’s career in a safe, dynamic environment while working with a team of underground professional miners.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with maintenance of electric/hydraulic diamond drill, capable of drilling holes of 1000m depth (NQ/BQ).
- Compliance with all HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) policies and procedures.
- Ensure diamond drill core is clean and core is presentable.
- Ensure tidiness of drill and workplace in underground environment.
- Ensuring Core Orientation marks are clearly made onto the core-experience will be an asset.
- Assist supervisor with management of drill breakdowns, moves and setup of rig.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- BGCSE / Equivalent
- A minimum of 1-3 years relevant work experience. Underground experience preferred
- Physical fitness: Tasks can be physically demanding and requires strength, stamina, and dexterity.
- Safety consciousness: Diamond drilling can be hazardous if proper health and safety procedures are not followed.
- Communication skills: Diamond assistant need to be able to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Ability to communicate in English is a necessity (written and verbal).
- Ability to organise and establish priorities, following up on outstanding tasks and closing out any completed works / task where necessary.
- Ability to demonstrate PNR values and core competencies
