Summary
Reporting to the Chief Veterinary Officer, the position will be responsible for planning, organising and undertaking the live testing process of vaccines, investigations and research on livestock diseases to determine the efficacy of vaccines in partnership with the technical partner and international veterinary and animal health authorities.
Description
The incumbent will be responsible for, among others, the following:
- Supporting the CVO in the formulation of the Veterinary Department strategy and plan, policies, and implementation to support the achievement of BVI strategy objectives (Aligned with best practice Animal Health Vaccine clinical testing.
- Reviewing and updating protocols and procedures for veterinary laboratory and field services, biosafety and SHEQ to ensure enforcing compliance to national, regional and international standards.
- Monitoring national disease data base to identify trends and patterns to guide strategy and appropriate vaccines and public health interventions.
- Supervising the Injection of cattle and laboratory animals with vaccine to test for safety and potency of vaccines; observing and reporting on results and maintains records of injections.
- Participating in research into outbreak of virulent livestock diseases and preparing technical papers and reports with recommendations for preventative measures.
Minimum Requirements
The right candidate will possess a minimum of a Degree in Veterinary Medicine or related area. Post graduate work in micro-biology or immunology preferred or epidemiology with virology emphasis. A minimum of seven (7) years in animal health research. Knowledge of livestock vaccine production.
