Duties

Incumbent assists journeymen skilled trades craftsmen in the performance of routine and preventative maintenance, new installations and demolition work.  Works under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and assigned to any of the skilled trades shops on a daily basis to assist skilled Technicians with maintenance and repair work in the Embassy compound and residential properties.

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:

    • Public Trust security clearance.

 

All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time, upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

Completion of primary school is required.

Two years of semi-skilled manual activities, apprentice level trades and craft experience is required.

 

 

 

Language:

Level II English (limited knowledge) and

Level III Setswana (good working knowledge) written/speaking/reading is required.

Must be able to use basic handheld tools. Must use good safety practices and follow all safety requirements when performing day to day duties and be able to use personal protective equipment.  Must be able to work in various conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, and extreme temperatures, indoors or outdoors to complete tasks.  Must be able to handle large workloads and multiple tasks, ability to take direction and organized.  Communicate orally with co-workers, contractors to obtain and provide pertinent information.  Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft word, Microsoft outlook) Must have a valid driver’s license. “This may be tested”.

    • Current employees who used a hiring preference to gain employment who are within their first 90 calendar days of employment are not eligible. This does not apply when the hiring mechanism is TEMP or the work schedule is intermittent or irregular.
