Technician Distribution Network planning at BOTSWANA POWER CORPORATION

Main purpose of the position

To carry out the planning of distribution network and delivery of large customer connection estimates to ensure availability of adequate network capacity, efficient customer connection, safe and cost-effective network designs.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepares designs and cost estimates for projects in accordance with Transmission and Distribution construction standards within delegated limits.
• Prepares designs and cost estimates of major reticulation systems and installations in accordance with Transmission and Distribution standards as well as provide cost estimates thereof to ensure cost recovery.
• Contributes to the update of individual rates at the commencement of the process of a Transmission and Distribution Small Works Phase.
• Verifies customer connections and recommends refunds on request from Customer Service.
• Works within strict quality standards to support the Operations, Performance & Efficiency functions.
• Collates and analyse network data (loading, equipment nameplate data, network topology etc.) using pre-determined tools, methods and formats
• Carries out prescribed internal and external client management activities and provides support to others by following existing procedures.
• Advise customers on technical requirements for different types of supply including the location of the Corporation equipment.
• Recommends CAPEX, Operational Expenditure & Manpower budget proposals and implementation of approved budget to achieve set objectives/plans
• Carries site inspections and monitors progress of projects in accordance with program management plan.
• Performs tests, compliance checks and operational capacity before commissioning of the project.
• Adhere to all Safety Health and Environmental and Risk standards contained in the Corporation’s SHER policies and procedures.
• Promotes safety awareness in line with SHER requirements through periodic audits.

Qualifications

• Recognised Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Attainment of Senior Authorisation will be an added advantage.
• Professional membership of the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) is required

Experience

• At least Five (5) years post qualification experience in the power environment of which two (2) would have been in project design and costing environment.
