Main purpose of the position

 To develop, design & administer the data centre infrastructure, enterprise technology and second level support to users to ensure optimal computer systems performance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Re-engineers computer systems to align with business requirement.
  • Modifies existing software or database to correct errors, allow it to adapt to new hardware, & to improve its performance
  • Integrates software components and third-party programs
  • Troubleshoots, debugs and upgrades existing software
  • Troubleshoots issues and/or needs to establish potential causes, related issues and barriers & takes appropriate action
  • Analyses user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
  • Plans and coordinates testing of solutions and processes, then implements and monitors the effectiveness of corrective actions and/or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develops and directs software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
  • Collates and analyses data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats.
  • Stores, retrieves, and manipulates data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements.
  • Monitors and tests system performance and provides system performance statistics and reports.
  • Analyzes specified problems and issues to find the best technical and/or professional solutions.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment and systems for emergency repairs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections
  • Assists specialists in setting up and testing new products/processes.
  • Installs complex systems with guidance.
  • Supports customers to ensure their needs are met and/or helps senior colleagues manage client relationships.
  • Manages relationships with key customers & stakeholders and act as their business partner, while using support teams to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Provides escalated support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Monitors implementation of Service Level Agreements to ensure compliance
  • Establishes & maintains relationships with Vendors as an internal resource.
  • Trains and provides technical direction to staff as needed
  • Plans, organises, allocates resources & monitors progress on allocated projects.
  • Monitors & ensures compliance with project objectives & timelines.
  • Compiles project reports & recommends improvements where applicable
  • Identifies risks during project implementation & advises on the mitigation
  • Monitors project budget & timelines to ensure completion within budget & timeline.
  • Monitors the delivery of outcomes to ensure that the project stays within scope
  • Identifies shortcomings and suggests improvements to existing processes, systems, and procedures.
  • Implements relevant improvements as required.
  • Benchmarks best practices on computer systems & recommends to Management
  • Provides information and clarification on existing procedures, processes, and precedents.
  • Provides input in the development of sectional budget
  • Monitors utilisation of approved budget to ensure compliance
  • Implements annual sectional budget
  • Improves employee performance by mentoring and coaching others when required using performance management systems and protocols
  • Implements own prescribed SHE initiatives & provides support services by using the organisations safety, health and environment systems and protocols.

  • A minimum of a recognised University Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or Equivalent
  • MCSE, VMware or Hyper-v is required.
  • Any Cloud computing certification is required, e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS.
  • Class B Drivers License is required.
  • Compute & Storage certification e.g., HPE 3par, Dell EMC would be an added advantage
  • Backup & Restore Certification e.g., Veem, Veritas, etc. would be an added advantage


  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in an ICT environment, 3 of which should have been in Data Centre Infrastructure support.
