SYSTEM CONTROLLER (X6) GABORONE, MOLEPOLOLE
In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 11th September 2024.
Main purpose of the position
To monitor, coordinate and control Distribution network loading and switching operations of the Corporation to facilitate safe operation, maintenance and repairs and quick restoration of customer power supplies.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitors the distribution network for abnormal conditions and carries out corrective measures such as load transfers to ensure continuity of power supply and equipment protection.
- Directs field operators to faults on the distribution network and assists with the faults investigations to ensure the power supplies are restored within acceptable times
- Records system defects and submits to the relevant sections for repair.
- Prepares operational switching programmes for approval to ensure efficiency during isolation or restoration of power supply network.
- Liaises with National Control Centre, other Distribution Service Centres, and outside utilities to coordinate system network coupling, outages, and other network operations.
- Contributes in formulation and review of operating and system control procedures and policies to ensure efficiency and safety.
- Receives and logs all fault complaints from customers and refers them to Faults crews and/or Field Operators for assessment and repairs.
- Records and maintains a log on network activities and events and ensures the availability of historical information for investigations and trends analysis.
- Highlights shortcomings and suggests improvements in current compliance processes, systems and procedures within assigned unit and/or discipline.
- Controls switching operations on the Distribution network to ensure compliance with operational safety rules.
- Identifies shortcomings in existing processes, systems and procedures.
- Proactively monitors trends and frequency of faults and recommends permanent resolutions in order to minimise repeat faults.
- Ensures that all safety and loss control standards (Safety Health and Environmental) contained in the Corporation’s standards are adhered to.
- Ensures compliance to SHER procedures when carrying out duties.
- Promotes safety awareness in line with SHER requirements through periodic audits
Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Senior Authorization is compulsory for internal candidates.
- Valid Class B Drivers’ License would be an added advantage.
Experience
- At least two (2) years post qualification experience in power network operations.
