Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Gaborone is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Supply Receiving Clerk.

Duties

Incumbent manages the receiving, tracking, inspection, distributing, and inventory of property management services for the Department of State and associated agencies.  Performs all receiving functions, including unpacking, identifying, and checking items against receiving documents, and acknowledging receipts of those documents.  Moves incoming items into storage rooms using handcarts and forklifts.  Issues items based on written instructions from supervisor.  Serves as alternate truck driver.  The position is in the General Services Section and under the supervision of the GSO Property Management Supervisor.

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:

    • Security certificate;
    • Public Trust security clearance.

 

All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time, upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

Completion of high school education is required.

Experience:

 

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in supply/warehousing/expendables or property/supply management is required.

 

Language:

 

English level III (good working knowledge) Written/Speaking/Reading

 

Setswana level III (Good working knowledge) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.

Job Knowledge:

 

    • Must have good knowledge of supply policies and procedures, and Safety Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) safety guidelines.

 

    • Must have good understanding of supply chain management and warehouse operations to include receiving, inspecting, tracking, storing, and issuing of supplies.

 

    • Must have good knowledge of computerized inventory and stock control data programs.

Skills And Abilities:

 

Computer competencies including basic skills in Microsoft Office applications, and related software as required, and basic math skills; Working knowledge of inventory management tools such as handheld scanners and software; Must have a valid, Class B Driver’s License.  Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minimum of Three (3) years; Must be able to lift a maximum of 51 lbs. (23kg) under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. “This may be tested”.

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYMENT CONSIDERATIONS

The following apply to EFMs, USEFMs, and AEFMs only:

 

    • Current employees who used a hiring preference to gain employment who are within their first 90 calendar days of employment are not eligible. This does not apply when the hiring mechanism is TEMP or the work schedule is intermittent or irregular.

 

    • Candidates with a hiring preference who have already accepted a conditional offer of employment may NOT be extended a second conditional offer of employment unless and until they withdraw their candidacy for the first position in writing.

 

The following apply to Locally Employed (LE) staff only:

 

    • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible.
