Purpose of the Role
To develop and implement sourcing strategies for mission critical commodities through collaboration with leadershio at the Corporate Centre and Operations. Accuntable for the pro-active development and management of relatinships with strategic suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive Total Cost of Ownership benefits.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development and implementation of the mining strategy to meet the operation’s medium and long term plans
- Manages and controls allocated timing and operates within approved parameters
- Analyses the section’s financial needs to develop a budget and ensure sufficient financial resources to meet business needs
- Develops Business Cases and cost/benefit analyses for key strategic commodities; drives / oversees the development of fact based commodity strategies and subsequent plans for a group of categories; challenges the status quo in pursuit of optimal value
- Lobbies for Executive Support and buy-in for relevant category initiatives; facilitate decision making by effectively communicating complex information to executive stakeholders. Identifies and engages with Sponsors of strategic commodities
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key engineering, project, OEM and consulting (including EPCM) stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of A&I engineering objectives and overall project objectives
- Assembles and leads cross-functional teams for key categories, driving the improvement of team effectiveness to achieve category strategy objectives
- Manages the data collection and analyses activities to support the strategic sourcing execution; utilizes advanced trend and spend analysis tools to draw inferences, anticipate, consolidate demand, spend and market patterns
- Monitors and reports on sourcing metrics; provides an accurate view of customer satisfaction and supplier performance/compliance for significant group of spend categories
- Develops and maintains appropriate negotiation strategies specific to the key categories
- Monitors and manages benefits accruing to Debswana and the Anglo Group of Companies from Strategic Sourcing and records savings; maintaining the pipeline for savings and tracking of the attainment thereof
- Manages a team of Sourcing Specialists subordinates’ key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
- Provides line management supervision and coaching support, including addressing training requirements and conducting performance assessments
- Implements sectional talent management initiatives by ensuring the right competence and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, localisation/succession, training and development plans.
- Provides input in the development implementation and review of supply chain policies and procedures; Manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and internal control principles/requirements in area of responsibility
Education
- Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or Commerce or Equivalent
Experience
- 8 years post qualification experience in a supply chain management of which 4 years should have been in Strategic Sourcing
- Sound knowledge of Contract Management and a working knowledge of legal contracts and International Trade Terms
