Title: Senior Technical Services Manager – 5 Year Fixed Term Contract
Purpose of the Role
To develop and provide strategic direction for Mineral Resources/Mining Technical Services for the Jwaneng’s Underground Mine in line with Debswana Strategy to deliver shareholder value. Provides oversight for optimal delivery to ensure the execution of strategic plans and tactical work packages across the mine planning and geoscience technical support services.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Applies extensive knowledge and experience of Underground Mining systems to interpret strategic and operational requirements and integrates with discipline based financial needs to ensure availability of financial resources to meet business objectives.
- Review and develop plans for for Safe and efficient underground mining technical support services including mine design, oversight of geosciences to support operational design, plan and extraction as well as ensuring enabling systems
- Evaluates and manages the impact of operational and strategic changes on the mineral and water resources and reserves management strategy in consultation with the Management Committees and other stakeholders.
- Develops, reviews, approves key technical and planning outputs from the underground mining technical team to inform underground mining operations which includes mine plans, designs, schedules and directional notes.
- Reviews and develops systems, management processes for effective planning and execution of medium to short-term plans driving the achievement of operational strategic plans (operational plans)
- Researches the market for opportunities to systematically support efforts in leading and improving safety in all areas of the underground mining
- Oversees the cascading of strategy objectives from business to underground technical services team as well as management and performance feedback
- Develops, reviews, approves and delivers timely and quality key technical and planning outputs from the underground mining technical group to mining operations which includes mine plans, designs, schedules and directional notes.
- Reviews, sets and finalises annual budgets and technical mine plans, cascading through to business tactics and short-range plans and actions
- Develops first principle mining budgets from mine plans for equipment, consumables, labor, mining costs
- Provides key review input and guidance to Long Term Planning teams, Life of Mine and RDP work requirements
- Develops systems, management processes and routines for effective work management and medium-short range execution planning of mining technical department work, integrating into aligned, achievable and challenging operational tactics and work plans
- Directs the initiation of projects, ensuring that all projects are managed and executed in accordance with best practice principles
- Manages subordinates’ key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
- Provides the framework for application of knowledge management principles to ensure effective knowledge capture, exchange and adaptation
- Provides the framework for identification and implementation of creative and innovative ideas and processes to ensure continuous business improvement
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives
- Responsible for and manages the overall departmental safety, health and environmental programme in line with operational strategy and objectives

Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Mining related field
Experience
- 10 years post qualification experience, of which 3 years should be at site/operations senior management level or equivalent in mining and mineral resources management environment
- Demonstrable application of underground mining engineering fundamentals, Safety, Technical, and Change Leadership as well as Operational mining systems.
- Risk and Crisis management training and practical experience.
