Role Purpose

Reporting to Manager, Corporate Affairs, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordination, supervision and execution the Council’s internal and external communication including but not limited to marketing, communications, brand management, event management, crisis and reputation management, public relations, stakeholder engagement to protect the image of the Council and to appropriately engage all of the Council key stakeholders.

The main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Carry out the day-to-day internal and external communications of the Council.

  • Contribute to the development of the corporate affairs strategy.

  • Draft internal and external communication policies and procedures.

  • Prepare Marketing and Communications policies and standards are developed and implemented throughout the organisation.

  • Prepare a stakeholder engagement plan for the year in liaison with other departments.

  • Provide Communications advise to the Council’s management and provide effective and appropriate advice in support of the Council’s decision-making process.

  • Prepare a comprehensive stakeholder map for the Council and develop appropriate communications and messaging for each key stakeholder group.

  • Map and manage the Council’s response to media and other stakeholders.

  • Determine the routine communication required internally and externally and establish communication protocols.

  • Prepare the Council’s corporate communications strategy for management review.

  • prepare key performance indicators for all public relations activities and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual performance monitoring reports.

  • Prepare sectional performance reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis and ensure that corrective action is taken where required.

  • Support Department Heads with the implementation of the communication strategy.

  • Participate and contribute to change management initiatives.

  • Prepare material and set-up of Council brand materials at all official events.

  • Establish processes to protect the corporate image of the Council and ensure that it is maintained and protected.

  • Communicate the corporate image throughout the Council and to external stakeholders.

  • Facilitate ideation, planning, implementation, and benefit assessment of the Council’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

  • Prepare the Council’s social responsibility policy.

  • Provide communication content for the Council digital platforms including the social media platforms and website and ensure that it remains current and accurately reflects the Council’s brand image as well as programs and events.

  • Work with other functions to prepare campaigns which promote the teacher professionalisation and further the Council’s mandate and strategic objectives.

  • Plan, attend and host teacher professionalisation events in collaboration with other Council departments including but not limited to conferences, expos, fairs etc to promote teacher professionalisation practitioners and their work.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or related field required.

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the marketing and communications field with at least two (2) years’ experience at supervisory level.

  • Experience implementing marketing and communication policies, processes, systems, and internal controls in a medium to large organisation.
