Senior Network and Infrastructure Administrator at BOTSWANA TEACHING PROFESSIONALS COUNCIL

Role Purpose

Reporting to Manager, Information and Communications Technology, the successful candidate will be assigned to coordinate, supervise and perform advanced / escalated installation, repair, upgrades and service maintenance of ICT infrastructure and network to ensure optimal availability, security, and performance of systems in accordance with service delivery standards and schedules.

The main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Carry out advanced escalated installation, testing, maintenance and repair of ICT equipment and infrastructure to ensure that equipment is maintained to Council standards.

  • Install network equipment applying the appropriate security protocols to avoid disruption.

  • Configure and install server, networking equipment, and peripheral equipment to facilitate access to network resources.

  • Evaluate new network hardware and software to determine compatibility with existing networking equipment.

  • Monitor voice and data networks for errors and resolves problems to improve efficiency.

  • Identify and diagnoses faults on reported equipment for purposes of performing repairs to minimise down time.

  • Respond to computer error logs for identification of high priority faults. ensuring prompt diagnosis and resolution.

  • Recommend changes in equipment and systems to enhance availability.

  • Update spare stocks on equipment by regularly entering data into the stock logging system.

  • Obtain quotations and orders necessary spares or equipment and submits for authorisation.

  • Inputs information into the Call logging/call log queries to ensure that all calls are progressed through the system until completion.

  • Monitor the quality of work performed by external contractors to ensure compliance with company/ engineering standards and contractual agreements.

  • Supply details of equipment functionality report to Manager ICT for monthly report writing.

  • Provides feedback on equipment performance to Manager ICT and suggests areas where performance can be improved and tests new upgrades and modifications, in conjunction with the users.

  • Adheres to ICT policy and procedures.

  • Comply with ICT Governance controls.

  • Research network and infrastructure and vendors that can provide required systems and perform reference reviews from their clients prior to their engagement.

  • Monitor vendor support services and provide input to the manager or their performance and recommended actions.

  • Support the manager on major ICT projects including performing assigned project tasks.

  • Facilitate user requirements assessment for systems identified for implementation within the Council.

  • Draft ICT reports for review and input by the manager on ICT projects and operational activities.

  • Supervise, train, mentor, support, and guide more junior personnel.

  • Review staff development programmes and mentor staff to optimise their potential.

  • Evaluate staff performance and provide counselling and advice to maximise staff contribution to the Council’s activities.

  • Research and apply best practices in own specialised area of work and maintain high level of knowledge in order to effectively undertake the duties of the post.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other Information Technology related field.

  • Recognised professional certification in any specific ICT-related field relevant to the Council.

  • A minimum of Five (5) years post qualification in the computing field. At least two (2) years supervising other ICT personnel.

  • Demonstrated skills, capability and experience in ICT infrastructure and Network management.
