This position is responsible for managing and providing technical inputs into one of Sandfire’s extensive and highly prospective regional exploration hubs.

The role will provide technical assistance in the planning and implementation of exploration programs, interpreting data and contributing to the rapidly evolving understanding of the Kalahari Copperbelt, compiling data and reports and making recommendations for further activities and drilling in this exciting and underexplored region.

Key Performance Areas

  • Assisting with implementing the company’s Botswana exploration strategy and working with in-country geologists and consultants
  • Work with the Principal Geologist – Botswana and the exploration team to identify and evaluate potential opportunities in the exploration tenements in Botswana, elsewhere in-country and in the region
  • Exploration and drill planning in collaboration with the Perth-based Technical Team and site geologists and overseeing the success of these programs within the exploration project area
  • Work to promote all the company Safe Working Practices in line with Sandfire’s global standards
  • Introduce and support geological systems in line with Sandfire’s global standards
  • Ensure all datasets used by the Tshukudu team are validated and fit for purpose
  • Management of specific exploration projects/areas in the company tenements in order to support/further the Motheo mine development project and/or the development of a new mining hub
  • Identifying and mitigating potential risks to the success of the project and the business
  • Providing support to the Botswana Exploration Team; mentoring, training and upskilling individual geologists, especially in the disciplines involved in 3D Modelling and Target Generation
  • Assisting in preparing presentations for internal management, and relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare relevant reports in respect of; mineral exploration activities, licence holdings and other activities

  • Strong and demonstrable competence in 3D Geological Modelling, and all aspects of Target Generation which require integration of data acquisition, integration and interpretation at differing scales from detailed, prospect/deposit scale through to regional basin scale.

Qualification & Experience

  • Tertiary Degree in Geology.
  • 14+ years relevant mineral exploration and geological experience.
  • Exploration Management and a track record of skills-transfer/staff training/development.
  • Sound knowledge of exploration methods and relevant Geological/Mineralisation models – of relevance include Sediment-hosted base metal deposits and IOCG mineralisation, essential.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence.
