Role Purpose

Reporting to Senior Investigations Officer, the successful candidate will be assigned to carry out assigned section activities of reviewing and investigating identified and reported (suspected or alleged) breaches of the teacher standards and code of ethics and conduct in accordance with set targets and strict adherence to investigation policies and procedures.

The main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Screen cases referred for investigation, order and classify referred cases and methodically work through each case.

  • Sort case files with recommended actions on each file.

  • Follow up, resolve, and provide feedback on complaints from both internal and external customers in accordance with policy and procedure.

  • With the support of the supervisor or manager investigate cases of ethical and professional breaches as reported or logged.

  • Maintain a dashboard of active cases and their status and liaise with the supervisor on priorities and actions to be taken.

  • Maintain a checklist of procedural actions to follow for each case to ensure strict adherence to investigation protocols.

  • Make recommendations of stakeholders to engage as part of the investigation process.

  • Record notes of allegations or referred cases including interview notes, full names and IDs of people interviewed and related dates and gather related information and documents as part of the investigation process.

  • Monitor cases logged on the ethics hotline and maintain a schedule of all reported cases and status of each.

  • Refer licensing and registration issues to the teacher professional services function for guidance and support.

  • Recommend the notification of police or other external parties where cases are found to be serious and warrant local police awareness and involvement.

  • Keep clear case and investigation records with accompanying outcomes and conclusions.

  • Open investigation case files and ensure their confidentiality and safe keeping.

  • Make case files available where cases proceed to discipline or are surrendered for handling by authorities independent of the Council.

  • Draft reports on investigation case portfolios and make contributions for information and decision making.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Law, Ethical Leadership / Applied Ethics, Law enforcement or any area related to the role.

  • A minimum of two (2) years post qualifying experience.

  • Experience in an investigation, auditor compliance role would be an added advantage
