Purpose of the Role

To provide business planning and forecasting services together with periodic variance analysis and commentary thereof to actuals in order to achieve long-term business objectives

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Analyses the area’s financial needs to develop a budget and ensures sufficient financial resources to meet business needs
  • Manages and controls allocated funds and operates within approved parameters
  • Coordinates inputs from mineral resources, mine planning, finance and human resources and other relevant departments for production of the strategic business plan
  • Evaluates each department’s commercial potential, costs and risk profile and combine into long-term financial model scenario planning and ‘what if ‘analysis
  • Develops and presents the strategic business plan, in line with guidelines from corporate, for consideration by senior management
  • Provides and analyses micro and macro-economic trends – inflation, interest rate, legislation and assesses and factors in their impact on the strategic intentions of the business.
  • Ensures that a framework is in place to facilitate the generation of accurate, timely and relevant information
  • Develops metrics that baseline the current state of the operation and will be appropriate to measure future improvement for consideration by senior management.
  • Develops and avails scenario planning models/templates and ensures their appropriate use
  • Coordinates the commercial evaluation of the life cycle projects through assessment of the expected profile of each business opportunity
  • Researches the market and monitors developments in the business planning arena to ensure compliance and adherence to business planning principles
  • Monitors implementation of the strategic business plan by the operation and regularly reports on the achievements and deviations from the plan for management action
  • Adheres to all corporate governance principles relating to inter-alia Purchasing Ethics, Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures in area of responsibility
  • Implements safety, health and environmental programs in area of responsibility taking cognizance of all legal requirements
  • Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives

  • any Commercial Degree or equivalent


8 years post qualification commercial experience, 5 of which should be in business planning

Legal Certification/Professional Registration

  • Registration with the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accounting (BICA)
