Senior Ethics and Standard Compliance Officer at BOTSWANA TEACHING PROFESSIONALS COUNCIL

Role Purpose

Reporting to Manager, Ethics and Standards Compliance, the successful candidate will be assigned to coordinate, supervise and execute the section’s activities of Ethics and Standards compliance planning, auditing, training, monitoring, and reporting to facilitate teacher adherence to the professional standards and Code of Ethics.

  • Adherence to department policies and procedures.

  • Staff awareness of Ethical Standards and compliance policies.

  • Effective case management process.

  • Effective support to Disciplinary Committee and Appeals Sub-Committees.

  • Programme of staff development and training.

  • Efficient compliance assessments.

  • Timely dissemination of compliance reports.

The main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to development and maintenance of ethics and standards monitoring strategies, plans, initiatives, and programmes.

  • Contribute to the production of clear guidelines giving the minimum expectations for teacher professional and ethical compliance.

  • Contribute to the production of promotional material outlining expectations for the awareness and education of teachers, education institutions and members of the public.

  • Contribute to the development of the annual compliance management plan.

  • Draft programs for compliance audit for review and approval by the manager.

  • Facilitate and participate in awareness campaigns to increase knowledge about expectations in ethical conduct.

  • Monitor the ethics hotline to process complaints and collate results for further investigations.

  • Monitor and assess teacher conduct against Code of Teaching Professional Ethics.

  • Receive and assess solicited and unsolicited reports of professional and ethical non-compliance.

  • Follows up, resolves, and gives feedback on lodged complaints from both internal and external customers.

  • Review and provide input into the preparation of the departmental dashboard and schedule of the compliance audits, issues, and risk log.

  • Perform field visits to audit compliance to standards, regulations, and code of conduct.

  • Arrange for ad hoc or scheduled site visits, that may be undertaken by the Council or through engaging private evaluators, for purposes of following up on a reported incident or simply assessing the climate for standards of professional and ethical conduct.

  • Assess adherence to teaching standards and regulations.

  • Supervise, monitor and quality assure the work of Officers and maintain open relations with all units.

  • Compile or review draft reports and make contributions for information and decision making.

  • Consolidate monthly reports and present these to the Manager.

  • Supervise, guide, coach, and support Officers in compliance processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Degree in Law, Business Administration, Information Science, Ethical Leadership / Applied Ethics, Audit, Compliance or related areas.

  • At least five (5) years of experience in an audit, compliance, or investigation role. Supervisory experience will be an added advantage.
