Purpose of the Role
The Senior Engineering Manager fulfils leadership and governance tasks across the Engineering Discipline in support of the overall strategy and business objectives.
A main purpose is the development and steering of the departmental strategy to enhance Asset Management maturity and translation of this strategy into operational improvements.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Assess and improve skills and resourcing within the function (technical and behavioural)
- Coordinate and integrate knowledge sharing across
- Manage Engineering-related talent management
- Manage Engineering Knowledge Management and best practice transfer
- Ensure succession plans are in place for key staff
- Establish and maintain appropriate systems and processes
- Manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets
- Develop and implement Departmental Asset Management strategy aligned with Group Asset Management strategy to optimise operational performance and costs
- Communicate strategy effectively within the department and external stakeholders
- Define and set-up tracking mechanisms for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the departmental Asset Management strategy
- Ensure that external change impacting the Asset Management programme is anticipated and factored into programme
- Provides engineering services to the operation
- Oversee, coordinate and review the implementation of the Asset Management programme
- Implement and improve Asset Management high-value processes in line with the group Asset Management strategy
- Oversee effective management of assets including machinery, mobile equipment and fixed plants to achieve maximum value
- Demonstrate high-level of applied expertise in maintenance management
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive compendium of engineering standards and specifications
- Ensure top risks are identified and mitigations plans in place and reviewed periodically
- Build capacity and capability by assessing and improving skills and resourcing within the function
- Ensure that contractors comply with engineering and specifications
- Setup and maintain a technical assurance program in line with the group strategy
- Provide technical guidance and support to project engineers and EPCMs
- Influence and review project designs
- Support stage gate reviews of major projects
- Perform quality reviews during the building phase
- Ensure operational readiness of all projects
- Provide Visible Felt Leadership (VFLs) in safety, health, environment and sustainable development
- Embed leading SHE management practices, identify areas for improvement and recommend actions to address gaps
- Proactively identify, monitor and mitigate SHE risks
- Know and understand the risk profile for his / her area of responsibility
- Adhere to all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures as well as Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act in area of responsibility
- Ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental standards
- Report every incident, accident and near hits
- Take part in SHE accident / incident investigations
- Ensure that housekeeping standards are applied
- Adopt and practice the principles of Zero Harm
- Ensure that contractors comply with PPE standards
- Effectively manage own development
- Ensures that codes of practices, standard operating procedures, legal and statutory requirements are adhered to in area of responsibility

Education
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Control & Instrumentation or Equivalent
Experience
- Minimum 10 years experience in engineering field
- Minimum 5 years of management experience
