Summary
Reporting to the Senior Research Scientist, the position will be responsible for planning and conducting research and development (R&D) activities, in a range of research areas, including veterinary and medical research leading towards product development for therapeutic and / or prophylactic use against infectious diseases in livestock animals and human beings.
Description
The incumbent will be responsible for among others the following:
- Contributing to the formulation of the R & D strategy and plan, policies, and implementation to support the achievement of BVI strategic objectives.
- Participating in the design, development and implementation of research proposals for product development.
- Preparing requisitions of orders of equipment and consumable material items for R&D activities in liaison with the Senior Research Scientist and Procurement and Supply department to ensure availability of required equipments and materials for R&D activities.
- Ensuring that quality standards are met while conducting R&D activities.
- Compiling monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the activities of the section.
- Working with and supporting the Senior Research Scientist on implementation of R&D projects.
- Providing on the job training and coaching of laboratory staff to ensure proper understanding of principles of techniques.
- Supporting the compliance of laboratory(s) with all the required ethical, safety, biosecurity, health and environmental standards.
- Ensuring compliance with all the required policies and regulatory guidelines and international standards guarding the implementation of R&D undertakings and diagnosis of animal diseases.
Minimum Requirements
The right candidate will possesses the following minimum requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Veterinary and /or Biological Sciences.
- PhD will be an added advantage.
- Registration with regional and international professional body(s) (veterinary/biological sciences,) as applicable will be an added advantage.
- A minimum of two (2) years working experience.
- Knowledge of serological, bacteriological, virological diagnostic techniques.
- Working knowledge of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE), Quality Management Systems (QMS) and biosafety/biosecurity.
