Purpose of the Role

To perform radiological procedures including investigative medical diagnostic ultrasound

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Conducts radiological procedures using digital systems according to set protocols .e.g medical surveliiance, clinical, emergency and trauma
  • Conducts unltrasound procedures .e.g Obstetric, trauma ,small parts, abdomen and gynaecologic scans for both stable and emergency cases.
  • Integrates medical history and sonographic findings to write a detailed report.
  • Interprets clinical requests and appropriately instructs clients in preparation for investigations
  • Interprets clinical requests and determines suitable radiographic examinations
  • Monitors and maintains stock levels for the unit on a regular basis
  • Performs special radiological procedures such as theatre radiography , HSG, IVU, MCU, Ba. Swallow as requested.
  • Performs ultrasound for interventional procedures (eg guided biopsy/needle aspiration etc)
  • Recommends alternative investigations where applicable
  • Regulary inspects diagnostic equipment to ensure they are functioning and operating efficiently including troubleshooting
  • Establishes and maintains Business Partner relationships with all key stakeholders to facilitate the optimal functioning of the functional area
  • Takes cognizance and adheres to hospital policies regarding customer service.
  • Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Bills accurately for the stock and services rendered
  • Captures patient information ,files, retrievies and tracks of X-Ray film packets as well as archiving digital images in appropriate formats and picture archiving and communicating systems (PACS)

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets and controls expenditure within approved parameters.
  • Adheres to all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures in area of responsibility

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Added Advantage: Diploma in Sonography

Experience

3 years post qualification experience

Legal Certification/Professional Registration

  • Registration with Botswana Health Professionals Council

Technical Competencies

  • Perform routine obstetric and gynecology scan
  • Interpret clinical requests
  • Be able to perform general radiography
  • Conduct emergency and FAST scans
