CONNECT Community Programme Manager

The Conservation of Natural Ecosystems Trust (CONNECT) aims to build strong conservation programmes ensuring a future for wildlife, natural habitats, and the people living with wildlife. CONNECT is looking for an ambitious, and energetic Motswana to lead its Community Programme Division. The Community Programme Manager role provides the opportunity for an innovative, driven and collaborative individual to help shape and sustain the Community Division of CONNECT TRUST. The Programme Manager will develop and manage programmes related to community- centred conservation. Building capacity and improving livelihoods resilience within the Communities bordering the Okavango Delta. It is a permanent, full-time managerial position for long term community project design and implementation. Based out of the CONNECT Trust Maun office, but with significant time to be spent in the villages and communities where the projects are based. Workdays are 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday as standard, but with expectations for additional hours as necessary due to travel or other commitments.

Specific Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director and Operations Manager, the Community Programme Manager will be responsible for the following.
1. Programme Development and Management. Help set a strategic vision for the Trust’s community-centred conservation work. Lead or assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of new and existing programmes and resources to help the communities implement community-centred conservation activities and incorporate community-centred principles into all aspects of the organization.
• Manage existing projects: Child Nutrition programme, Women’s Entrepreneurial Groups, Child Play Groups.
• Develop new and exciting projects to expand the programmes, including budget building and long-term planning.
• Assist in Fund Raising and donor feedback.
• Administrative tasks: budget management, grant management, project logistics, junior staff management, amongst others.

2. Relationship building. Dedicate time to shared learning, trust and relationship building with associated stakeholders and community members.
• Focusing on health, social justice, and social upliftment.
• Networking and relationship building with Community Trust employees.
• Represent CONNECT at necessary conferences, workshops, etc.

Qualifications and Requirements
• Botswana Citizen.
• Class B Drivers license essential, with experience in manual and 4×4/off road driving a bonus.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; and a minimum of five years’ experience working in community engagement capacity building,
community-centred conservation or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered.
• Strong project management experience including a minimum of two years of experience delivering community-facing programs; and a minimum of two years of budget management and grant management experience.
• Strategic, interdisciplinary thinker.
• Exceptional oral and written English communication skills and ability to manage programme communications.
• Fluency in Setswana.
• Fluency in one or more regional languages would be a bonus (Sesarwa, Bayei, Hambukush, etc)
• Ability to plan, implement, adapt and improve programmes based on evaluation and adaptive management practices.
• Some experience with non-profit fundraising including grant proposal writing and reporting preferred.
• Ability to travel including evenings/weekends or to external conferences.

Compensation
Salary range is negotiable, intended to be competitive and will depend on qualifications and experience.
Additional Benefits to include contributions to a medical aid and funeral fund.
