Duties:  The candidates should be able to teach in the areas of Sociological Theory and Research Methods, contribute significantly to the University of Botswana Strategic research themes and emerging areas of Sociological thought.  Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following specialization: Research Methodology; Religion and Belief Systems; Digital Society and Culture; Communication for Development; Globalization; Culture and Social Change; NGOs and Development; Fundamentals of Development Practice.  The candidate should be able to: (i) supervise undergraduate and graduate students’ research projects; (ii) conduct research and render professional services; (iii) perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements:  the candidates should have: (i) a PhD in Sociology or related fields, (ii) at least nine (9) years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) a minimum of 24 pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers.  Twelve (12) of these must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases.  The remaining twelves (12) publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviews conference proceedings, etc.  published by recognized publishers; (iv) An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality of standing; (v) Sustained research output:  a minimum of 3 peer reviewed publication every four years; (vi) Sustained research activity: on-going externally supported research (e.g. funded/commissioned); (vii) paper/poster presentations at international conferences at least once every two years; (viii) be lead and/or single author in at least one-quarter of the require journal publications in Sociology.  There should be also be evidence of mentorship of early career scholars/graduate students; (ix) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (x) significant research, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (Required in at least 3 of these); (xi) acknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer review of new research  proposals; reference in research committees’; editor/guest editor/reviewers of refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board members of an international publisher in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international/symposia (required in at least 3 of  these); (xii)  evidence of governance and social engagement; (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organizations; (xiv) research collaboration with cognate disciplines in the University; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD thesis internationally.  The following will be an added advantage: (i) research awarded and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate.
