Purpose of the Role

To provide preventative and curative health services to patients

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Assesses the urgency and severity of presenting problems of inpatients and outpatients through history taking and examination
  • Institutes appropriate treatment options and interventions in line with the diagnosis
  • Manages patients with infectious diseases to prevent or limit their spread
  • Orders relevant investigation to aid diagnosis
  • Participates in clinical audits, accreditation audits and other quality improvement processes as may be requested by management
  • Performs various operations and gives anesthesia within scope of practice and experience
  • Provides care and support for people with chronic and terminal conditions
  • Provides evidence based screening, risk assessment and early detection of illness, disease and disability
  • Provides family planning and reproductive health services
  • Records accurate, relevant and appropriate clinical information in accordance with agreed standards/protocols
  • Refers patients for diagnostic, therapeutic and support services as appropriate
  • Implements sectional talent management initiatives by ensuring the right competence and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, localization /succession, training and development plans
  • Manages the effectiveness areas of subordinates and reviews targets

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Collects analyses data and produces reports as required by management
  • Establishes and maintains Business Partner relationships with all key stakeholders to facilitate the optimal functioning of the medical section
  • Identifies, coordinates and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/requirements in area of responsibility
  • Initiates, monitors and controls short term sectional projects to ensure attainment of desired results
  • Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance


  • Bachelors Degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)


Five (5) years relevant experience with medical and surgical experience, in a hospital setting
