Main purpose of the position

Coordinate and provide technical support on maintenance and repair activities  of mechanical equipment in accordance with set specifications, standards and procedures to ensure optimal plant availability, reliability and safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conducts equipment trials to ensure adherence to set limits/manufacturing standards after each scheduled or corrective maintenance activity
  • Confirms equipment is ready for testing/trials and analyses the results for required remediation action if necessary to ensure safe running of the equipment within set specifications.
  • Checks and certifies work performed to ensure that it has been carried out according to requirements and set standards.
  • Investigates and recommends modifications on mechanical equipment to address repetitive faults to optimise performance
  • Identifies performance gaps and requests for training to meet industry standards following prescribed procedures.
  • Provides technical advice and support to staff on the maintenance and repair of mechanical plant equipment and determines priorities to effect repairs in a timely manner to ensure that the job is completed successfully.
  • Supervises  outage activities for planned maintenance within designated unit in accordance with statutory requirements and specifications.
  • Inspects new stock from suppliers before binning and or usage to ensure supplies meet the provided specifications and standards.
  • Checks tools, spares and material  specifications and availability then approves acquisition from stores for the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment within delegated limits.
  • Recommends the purchase of new tools and spares as per the departmental requirements.
  • Checks safety documents and monitors the activities of staff to ensure that safety standards are adhered to in order to avoid accidents.
  • Ensure completion of all corrective and planned maintenance activities in accordance to set industry standards to ensure improved plant availability and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Experience

  • At least two (2) years post qualification  relevant industrial experience in Mechanical maintenance
  • Exposure to power plant environment  is an added advantage
