The Lubrication Technician is responsible for facilitating maintenance and repairs on operations vehicles as they come into the workshop.
The Technician will be maintaining records of maintenance activities and repairs performed to keep track of equipment condition and preventative measures taken. This position Inspects equipment and records maintenance requirements in a logbook.
Key Performance Areas
- Maintaining records of maintenance activities and repairs performed to keep track of equipment condition and preventative measures taken.
- Applying lubricants to the moving parts of the process plant and vehicle engines to prevent premature engine wear and ensure optimal engine performance.
- Inspecting equipment and recording maintenance requirements in a logbook
- Performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure its safe operation, such as greasing bearings and replacing belts or hoses.
- Maintaining inventory of lube products such as motor oil and transmission fluid
- Identifying problems with equipment that could lead to breakdowns, malfunctions, or other problems.
- Lubricating wheel bearings to prevent excessive tire wear.
- Performing engine cleanings to prevent rust formation.
- Replacing cabin, fuel, air, and oil filters as required.
- Performing tire rotations to ensure even tire wear.
- Testing tire pressure and adding air as needed.
- Thoroughly inspecting customers’ vehicles for oil leaks.
- Making recommendations for additional servicing based on initial vehicle inspections.
- Notifying the Service Advisor when vehicle maintenance or servicing cannot be completed within scheduled timeframes.
- Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Quarries Act regulations, and company standards on winding ropes and attachments, overhead crane cables, brakes, drums, and hooks and report all defects and breakdowns on lifting equipment to the Mechanical Supervisor.
- To eliminate the risk of injury, incident, or equipment damage by providing the specialize knowledge required when lifting and/or manoeuvring abnormal or heavy objects.
- Ensure that lifting equipment is inspected, used, and maintained in a correct and safe manner.
Technical Competencies
- Proven experience in Condition monitoring principles
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Time management and organizational skills as well as hand-eye coordination
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- The ability to read and follow complex directions in manuals as well as relay information in reports.
- The physical ability to perform all tasks related to the position of Lube Technician, such as bending and reaching, standing for long periods of time and lifting.

Qualification & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or National Craft Certificate (NCC)Heavy Plant Mechanic or related fields
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certificate in basic and advanced bearing diagnostics and lube technology
- 3 years + continuous experience in process plant maintenance
- Sound knowledge in the maintenance, repairs and fault finding of the processing plant equipment.
