Generation
Job Purpose
To accurately conduct sampling and chemical analytical tests on power plant raw materials and chemical conditioning of boiler feed water system in accordance with laid down procedures in order to assess the quality and status to ensure prolonged plant availability and efficient power generation.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREA
DUTIES
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR / EXPECTED OUTPUT
Testing Monitors and takes readings on the level of bulk chemicals storage tanks and the regeneration plant tanks to ensure appropriate quantities are available for regeneration purposes (removal of impurities from water purifying agents).
Carries out analytical and quality tests on various material e.g. coal, ash,water, oil, soil e.t.c, to ensure compliance to set standards.
Data Collection & Analysis Monitors and logs online analyser readings  to record the flow, pressure and other characteristics on the status of the plant equipment to ensure the availability and efficiency of the plant.
Compliance Works within current compliance processes, systems and procedures and reports shortcomings.
Housekeeping Responsible for cleanliness of the laboratory glassware, equipment and general good housekeeping.
Improvement / Innovation Implements improvements and carries out simple change management tasks by following established procedures to support others.
Operating Machine or EquipmentOperates various lab equipment, adjusting work sequence and/or other variables to improve efficiency.
Quality Management Collects and tests samples from water sources and power plant boiler water, coal, ash,oil and pollution abatement chemicals, whilst employing proper sampling techniques for analysis on quality checks and to determine the chemical conditioning status of the plant
Perform implementation of safe working procedure and methods to ensure compliance with ISO 17025.
Safety, Health and Environment Operates in accordance with policies and rules, while performing routine safety checks on own equipment and workspace.
Contributes to the development of risk assessments
Undertake such other related duties as directed by the supervisor from time to time to meet the exigencies of the Corporation.
Qualifications
A recognized Certificate in Laboratory Technology/Science or equivalent
A valid Class B Driver’s license (within 6 months of appointment)

 

Experience

A minimum of 1 year post qualification experience in a Laboratory environment
