Business Development and Sales Manager (Contract basis)
Southern Africa

Location: Gaborone – Travels across Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa

Leading manufacturer specialized in hybrid inverter-chargers, lithium batteries and off-grid solar systems

The Consultant shall perform Business Development and Sales Management (BD-SM) Activities and build up a BD-SM Portfolio of customer accounts or specific projects, and later on manage these accounts to maximize growth.

BD-SM Activities

  • Develop and execute a business development plan to meet semi-annual sales targets
  • Identify and select quality potential clients (with a strong focus on mature clients)
  • Provide support or assist existing clients to further their development
  • Review/amend price structure with volume incentives
  • Prepare quotations
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients
  • Follow up on quotations and proposals submitted
  • Present products to clients and offer training when required
  • Report to the line manager weekly basis on the work plan, progress, yield, problem, and execute the solution.

Portfolio Geographies

BD-SM activities shall cover primarily the following geographical markets of Southern Africa. Priority and focus shall be:
Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, South Africa, Botswana and Angola
Geographical engagement also includes organization headquarters located outside the above operating regions.

Portfolio Accounts

BD-SM Activities can cover all aspect of account relationship building and management. Portfolio Accounts are specifically designated with the intent of the Consultant to play a holistic role in their development and maintenance.

Key Account Offsets. Target companies that are established in the off-grid / weak-grid sectors that current use products or solutions from competitive or internal sources.

Support Provided

The manufacturer and its local partner will provide Consultant with best effort support to conduct above mentioned BD-SM Activities, including:

  • Provide sales and marketing material and samples
  • Share any new product development
  • Consistently supply quality products with an attractive price structure and payment terms
  • Staff made available to assist Consultant with quotations and funding proposals
  • Refer qualified leads in selected markets to Consultant
  • Informing the Consultant of major manufacturer developments at HQ level and in other African markets
  • Include Consultant presence in major trade shows or events where the manufacturer or its representative would be participating in the targeted markets

Location and Travels
The BD-SM Manager would be based in Gaborone, Botswana.

This assignment requires frequent travel by road to existing and potential clients in neighbouring countries and occasional air travel to other markets. Expect to be travelling 10-12 weeks per year or more.

Expenses
Flight and hotel/Airbnb accommodation will be organized and paid by the manufacturer or its local partner. A travel expense advance may be given to Consultant if he/she is using his own vehicle and Airbnb for accommodation. Otherwise, local transport, communication and other small expenses would be reimbursed afterwards.

Fee
Monthly base fee + sales commission structure. This is an independent consultant contract, not an employee position.

Duration
Six month contract renewable indefinitely if performing well.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in business management, sales or electrical or electronics engineering
  • Three to five years of work experience in business development or sales
  • Experience in the renewable sector and preferably inverter-chargers and lithium batteries segment
  • English native or near native both spoken and written. Good command of Portuguese is an asset.
  • Conversant with office 365, email and Teams
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Experience working in an international setting is an asset
  • Legally allowed to work in Botswana. No sponsorship.
  • Drivers license
  • Own vehicle is preferred
