Duties

Incumbent is the Diplomatic Technology Customer Engagement Supervisor responsible for managing computer systems at the US Embassy Gaborone Mission for State and all other agencies. Incumbent coordinates, oversees and directs computer staff in applying the configuration standards required by Diplomatic Technology Officer (DTO) and Gaborone to ensure the Wide Area Network (WAN) in Botswana operates efficiently and in accordance with Department of State (DoS), Diplomatic Security, and DTO regulations and guidelines. Incumbent is responsible for DTO section management functions, development of subordinates, budget planning, financial resource management, system, and project planning. Incumbent is expected to continually evaluate the Mission IT systems and develop creative solutions to ensure systems are operating at peak performance.

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:

    • Security certificate;
    • Public Trust security clearance.

 

All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time, upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Information and Technology and Information Systems or Information Science or Software Engineering or Computer Engineering is required

Five years of progressively responsible experience in the computer field which includes computer management, LAN/WAN administration in a small to medium sized domain, software installation and applications support, user, and customer services support with 1-year supervisory experience in a LAN network environment required.

Language:

English level IV (Fluent) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.

 

Setswana level III Speaking is required.

Job Knowledge:

Advanced specialist knowledge in Information Technology (IT) administration and software, including Microsoft (MS) Windows Server management, MS Exchange and MS Windows network configuration, MS Office productivity software and current MS Windows operating systems.

Skills And Abilities:

Excellent LAN/WAN domain and network infrastructure management and administration skills; technical LAN/WAN network troubleshooting skills; as well as operating systems and applications skills are required. Microsoft Windows Server/Client operating systems in a domain network environment. Advanced level knowledge of the MS Office suite is required. Programming knowledge in web scripting languages, SQL and PowerShell required. Basic knowledge of Cisco routers/switches configured in a network environment. This may be tested.

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYMENT CONSIDERATIONS
