Job Summary:
Integrate and oversee all coal processing activities within the plant area to ensure that coal is processed safely, cost effectively and in line with production and quality performance targets. The Head of Beneficiation must ensure that overall metallurgical performance is optimised to realise value across the MCM value chain. With a strong tactical and strategic focus, the Head of Beneficiation will develop processes to produce products with a customer centric approach to gain a competitive market advantage and ensure that customer requirements are met at all times.
Key Activities:
- Drive, manage and deliver plant production targets, integrating metallurgy and laboratory priorities to achieve the required production outputs.
- Manage beneficiation operational performance and drive implementation of best practice for operational excellence.
- Integrate the beneficiation operations with the production value chain to ensure optimal plant performance.
- Direct and coordinate activities to achieve plant production performance targets in line with organisational objectives.
- Ensure operations planning, functional strategy, and related initiatives (business improvement transformational initiatives, etc.) are integrated and aligned to the organisational strategy.
- Align production volumes and quality with market requirements by liaising with the Market Intelligence team in order to support the overall business marketing strategy.
- Drive and implement continuous improvement initiatives, projects and processes to drive growth aligned to organisational objectives.
- Continuously drive the improvement in terms of digitalisation and automation by initiating and supporting digital and automation initiatives within the Beneficiation function.
- Provide technical input into the development or acquisition of new processing plant or equipment.
- Establish a methodology of business operations, communications and control to ensure that statutory compliance and risk mitigation is achieved.
- Monitor functional adherence to standards in line with MCM policies and regulations.
- Assume responsibility for SHE practices of applicable area of responsibility.
- Execute all responsibilities associated to legal appointment.
- Develop a framework for application of knowledge management principles to ensure effective knowledge capture, exchange, and adaptation.
- Develop a framework for identification and implementation of creative and innovative ideas and processes to ensure continuous business improvement.
- Direct subordinates to achieve individual and team objectives by ensuring the right competence and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing training and development plans.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives.
Core Capabilities:
- Technical knowledge of coal processing and experience in managing coal processing plants.
- Financial acumen to ensure coal is produced at the highest quality and lowest cost.
- Knowledge of coal analysis methods and familiarity with laboratory operations.
- Experience in driving and implementing operational excellence initiatives in the plant environment.
- Ability to stay abreast of industry trends and best practice, and drive the selection, implementation, and adoption of digital transformation technologies into the Beneficiation function.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Metallurgical, Chemical, Mineral Processing or equivalent). Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
- Management Development Programme as an added advantage
- 10+ years relevant experience in mineral processing environment with 4 years at managerial level.
- Registration with Botswana Engineers’ Registration Board or equivalent.
- Knowledge of SHE Management System ISO 45001: 2018 and ISO 14001: 2015.
