FUEL & ASH ENGINEER (x1)-MORUPULE

Main purpose of the position
To plan, organise and coordinate the operations of station Balance of Plant (Coal Plant, Ash Plant, Pollution Abatement Plant and Fuel Oil Plant) to achieve agreed targets through efficient, and cost-effective operations and ensure availability of station inputs in accordance with the station capability plan
Job Responsibilities
- Organizes the activities at Balance of Plant and allocates duties and responsibilities
- Provides technical support for staff in relation to plant and equipment being operated at the power station to ensure continuous operation of the plant.
- Contributes to the station planning process by identifying areas of operational concerns and any impacts or conflicts to ensure safe and efficient operation of the plant.
- Checks and monitors the operations of the plant to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures, housekeeping and safety practices and standards.
- Supervises and controls re-commissioning of plant and equipment after repair or maintenance.
- Forecasts and sets input requirements and monitors their availability to ensure the attainment of the capability plan.
- Plans and coordinates the delivery of pollution abatement products (limestone, sodium bicarbonate) and fuel oil from suppliers
- Coordinates the effective removal of combustion by-products in accordance with the plant design limits
- Investigates process short falls during the operation of the plant and uses the technical knowhow to re-align the team and attain improved performance
- Develops Failure Mode Effect Analysis, Cause and Effect, Baseline Risk Assessments for approval by the Senior Operations Engineer in order to improve plant care and performance.
- Coordinates all Coal and Ash Plant activities and release of equipment within the Outage Plan
- Participate in tendering and evaluation activities
- Provides input into the development of Plant Life Reliability and Maintainability Plan for an area within the organization, then monitors the implementation of those plans.
- Identifies and evaluates complex expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.
- Diagnosis and analyses all plant reliability incidents and implements remedial action plan to prevent future occurrences
- Delivers operational activities in accordance with the set Quality Management System
- Identifies shortcomings, suggests improvements and implements approved revisions to current compliance processes, systems and procedures within assigned unit and/or discipline.
- Provides information and data consumption of materials inputs and prepares relevant production reports.
- Coordinates with the external stakeholders on impending outages and operations
- Tracks budgets and brings variances to the attention of Senior Operations Engineer working within established budgeting systems.
- Provides input into the development of procedures for an area within the organization, then monitors the implementation of those procedures.
- Carries out on-the-job training in order to increase the flexibility, efficiency and capability of the team.
- Manages the motivation and discipline of staff in area of responsibility in line with laid down procedures to realize the Corporation’s objectives
- Manages the performance of the team by working within an established performance management system
- Proposes and implements staff development plans for the area of responsibility to ensure competent, efficient and motivated staff
- Provides support services by using the organization’s safety, health and environment systems and protocols.
- Participates in safety inspections and reports on findings to maintain safety of personnel and good housekeeping of the plant.
Qualifications
- A relevant B.Eng/BSc in Chemical Engineering/ Process Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Should be a registered member of the Botswana Engineering Registration Board.
Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in a process or heavy industry.
- Experience in materials handling would be an added advantage.
- Must be a Senior Authorised Person or attained within 6 months (Internal Candidates) and 12 months (External candidates)
