 In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 30 MARCH 2025.

Main purpose of the position

To develop, coordinate and monitor Fire safety programmes and activities in order to minimise fire risksand to ensure compliance with BPC’s integrated SHEQ performance standards, best practice standards such as NFPA, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISI 45001, BOBS and statutory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identifies fire training needs and prepares training material related to fire prevention, protection, and evacuation procedures
  • Investigates fire outbreaks and liaises with external investigation authorities
  • Develops fire contingency plans including evacuation procedures to ensure emergency preparedness
  • Monitor all fire systems to ensure operational readiness
  • Coordinates fire risks assessment of buildings, plants and other corporation developments and makes recommendations on fire prevention and protection systems in line with fire safety standards e.g. NFPA
  • Coordinates regular maintenance of all fire systems to ensure operational readiness and serviceability
  • Initiates budget requirements (OPEX and CAPEX) on projects or services aiming at risk reduction in the long term
  • Develop and facilitate implementation of fire safety strategies and business plans in line with overall Corporate strategy and business plans
  • Prepares and submit periodic reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual) on fire prevention, incidents and other departmental activities to Enterprise Risk and Claims Superintendent
  • Develop and implement engagement plan for all internal and external stakeholders in relation to fire risks
  • Advise management on queries from stakeholders and facilitate process to resolve issues through Line management
  • Advises management on trends in fire prevention and suppression measures and changes in statutory fire regulations and ensures that systems are updated and functional

Qualifications

  • A recognised Bachelors Degree in Fire Safety Management or equivalent.
  • Sound knowledge in implementation of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and best practice system
  • Valid Membership of SHER professional bodies is an added advantage

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in the field of Fire Safety
  • Of the above, at least 3 years in a middle management capacity
  • Experience in power utility (generation, transmission & distribution) industry or related an added advantage
