FIRE PREVENTION OFFICER (SOUTH) X 1

Main purpose of the position
To implement and monitor Fire Safety programmes and activities to minimise fire risks and ensure compliance through BPC integrated SHER performance standards and relevant statutory requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Conducts fire and evacuation drills to prepare team members for fire emergencies and arranges first aid firefighting equipment training for fire team members.
- Liaises with local fire authorities in area of responsibility to provide technical assistance in the event of fire emergencies.
- Leads firefighting team in the event of a fire outbreak and coordinates activities of the team.
- Conducts periodic inspections and tests of fire equipment including firebreaks, all fixed fire detection and suppression systems, and reports on defects
- Conducts fire risk assessments in area of responsibility and recommends control/corrective measures to minimise the identified risks.
- Investigates fire outbreaks and liaises with external fire services bodies as required.
- Ensures effective maintenance of fire equipment by outside service providers in line with BPC standards and legal requirements
- Prepares monthly and annual fire incident statistics highlighting problem areas and makes recommendations and submits to the Fire Risk Coordinator for analysis.
- Conducts and/or arranges for all training of fire marshal, fire teams, induction of new employees and contractors to ensure to ensure sufficient pool of trained personnel.
- Implements engagement plans for all internal and external stakeholders
- Enforces adherence to all fire safety and protection procedures and standards.
- Provides advice to management on fire related issues
- Adhere to all safety standards (Safety Health and Environmental) contained in the Corporation’s policy manuals.
Qualifications
- Recognised Diploma in Fire Engineering and Safety Management or Equivalent.
- Membership of institution of Fire Engineers preferred
Experience
- Three (3) years post qualification experience in area of Fire Safety of which two (2) will have been in a supervisory position or related field in an industrial environment.
