EXECUTIVE DEAN (CONTRACT POSITION)

The University of Botswana wishes to invite suitably qualified applicants for the position of Executive Dean in the following Faculties:
- Faculty of Humanities, Education & Social Sciences.
- Faculty of Business, Economics and Law
- Faculty of Medicine and Health Science
- Faculty of Natural & Applied Science
- Faculty of Engineering & The Built Environment
The Executive Dean of Faculty provides visionary direction and strategic oversight to the entire Faculty. The position holder is responsible for shaping the teaching and learning, research priorities, and management of the Faculty operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
(a) The Executive Dean shall be responsible to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Teaching and Learning, for contributing to the development of the University’s strategy, policies, processes and procedures; (b) developing and leading the execution of a comprehensive faculty strategic plan, policies and procedures in line with the University’s overall goals; (b) monitoring and evaluating the performance of Faculty operations against established goals and objectives, identifying areas for improvement and recommending corrective action as needed; (c) driving strategic initiatives to enhance academic excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration; promoting a culture of service excellence, manage resources effectively and drive change where necessary in order to build the reputation of the Faculty; d)Ensure developmental and delivery of high quality academic programs that meet accreditation standards; e)head the faculty’s research agenda, encouraging a culture of research excellence and impactful contribution to knowledge; f)develop and manage the faculty budget; g)prioritize students success by fostering positive and inclusive learning environment; h) develop and manage the Faculty’s risk register.
The successful candidate will be expected to (i) ensure the development and delivery of high-quality academic programmes that meet accreditation standards and respond to the needs of students and industry; (ii) foster a culture of continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment practices; (iii) lead the faculty’s research agenda, encouraging a culture of research excellence and impactful contributions to knowledge; (iv) prioritize student success by fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment; (v) develop and lead the implementation of initiatives to enhance student engagement, retention, and overall academic experience; (vi) provide excellent customer services ensuring client and stakeholder satisfaction; (vii) develop and manage the faculty risk register with clear mitigation strategies(vii) collaborate with the legal and compliance departments to address legal and regulatory issues; (ix) provide leadership in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining a diverse and accomplished faculty; (x) engage and discipline staff in accordance with defined human resources management policies and procedures and prevailing labor laws; (xi) develop and manage the faculty budget; (xii) undertake any other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Education, qualifications and experience
A PhD/Doctorate qualification with substantial level of achievement as an academic covering teaching, research and/or professional practice in a relevant discipline as commensurate with a senior academic university leadership role. A relevant Master’s degree or fellowship in the area of discipline is mandatory.
Desirable professional standing
Member of recognized professional body.
Work experience
A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in teaching, research, and governance and social engagement experience in a higher education institution are required; (ii) Substantial academic leadership with a minimum of three (3) years as Head of School/Deputy Dean or their equivalent; (iii) A strong track record of research as evidenced by publications; (iv) Demonstrated success in strategic planning and implementation; (v) Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills; (vi) commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; (vii) financial acumen and budget management experience

Tenure of Office
Executive Dean shall be appointed for a maximum of two terms of three (3) years each. The incumbent may apply for contract renewal six months before expiration of the first term.
