Main Purpose of the Job: To provide strategic leadership for the development of Library and Information Services to support the University’s strategic plan and to manage high quality service delivery with a special emphasis on digital technologies and online information resources in response to changing information needs of students, faculty and research staff.
The position reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Research and Enterprise.
Requirements: Applicants must have; i) at least a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent professional qualification; ii) thorough working knowledge of management of University or equivalent, academic library and information services, and extensive professional experience in academic information services delivery; iii) thorough understanding of university systems as an operational environment, and of the role of an academic library in supporting teaching and research programmes and in providing an interactive learning space; iv) proven track record in the application of digital technologies, academic information services delivery and operating familiarity with emerging trend knowledge management and digital scholarship; v) minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a professionally qualified graduate, three (3) of which should have been at deputy director level, within a university or equivalent. A PhD will be an added advantage.
