INSTITUTE FOR COMBATING ILLICIT FINANCIAL FLOWS

The University of Botswana wishes to invite suitable applicants to the position of Director of the Institute for Combating Illicit Financial Flows (ICIFF).

The Director provides strategic leadership and oversight to the Institute. The incumbent is responsible for capacity building and collaboration with government agencies and international stakeholders to facilitate the effective implementation of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Financing Terrorism (CFT), and Proliferation of Arms of Mass Destruction (CPF) initiatives in support of combating illicit financial flows initiatives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: i)Developing and leading the execution of strategic plans, policies, processes, and procedures to ensure the Institute achieves its objectives; ii)Monitoring, and evaluating the performance of the Institute, identifying areas of improvement, and recommending corrective actions needed; iii) Driving strategic initiatives to enhance multi-disciplinary research collaborations, training, and building strategic partnerships with relevant domestic and international stakeholders in combating illicit financial flows initiatives; iv)Ensure the development and delivery of high-quality capacity-building programs consistent with domestic laws and accreditation standards and in compliance with international standards and best practices in the AML/CFT/CPF space; v) Ensure alignment of the Institute’s research agenda and capacity building with the government’s objectives in combating illicit financial flows; vi)Provide strategic reports to enhance the quality and relevance of standards and measures for combating illicit financial flows initiatives; vii)Provide excellent customer services ensuring client and stakeholder satisfactionviii) Provide leadership in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining a diverse and accomplished instituteix) Compliance with UB human resource policies and procedures and national labour laws; x) Develop and manage the Institute Budgetxi) Undertake any other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Education Qualifications and Experience: A PhD/Doctorate in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Law, or related field and experience in higher education is required.

Work Experience: A minimum of 10 years’ experience, 3 of which should be at senior management level, is required. Should have experience working with or collaborating with multiple and international stakeholders, demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and coordination of the AML/CFT/CPF system and professional competency and mastery of the AML/CFT/CPF system. Demonstrate success in strategic planning and implementation and have excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills and experience in budget management.
