Main Purpose and Scope of the Job

Diesel Foreman will ensure that all the Mining Diesel Equipment (MDE) are maintained and repaired to conform to local and company health, safety and environmental standards and requirements and they perform to the required production demands within budget.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To oversee and direct all personnel engaged in all aspects of MDE and repair to ensure all activities are performed safely, reliably and efficiently in line with company and client health safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures are established, communicated and implemented.
  • Achieve required Availability of MDE within budget.
  • Assist the Maintenance Planners & Administrators to develop a maintenance strategy plan for all maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Generate and distribute accurate progress reports.
  • Develop model maintenance and component change out projection plan that can assist or guide Mining Planners to draw their mining plans accordingly.
  • Ensure that the procurement and supply team are given a forward projection of parts and materials requirements to ensure all parts arrive just in time and only critical items and minimal inventory is stocked on site.
  • Daily observation of all activities and personal on site.
  • Encourage all staff to adopt a contamination control culture.
  • Coordinate daily toolbox talks and encourage all staff to present topics.
  • Identify individual’s weaknesses and training requirements and work with the training department to ensure the correct training is delivered.
  • Monitor the equipment application and operation and report any concerns.
  • Ensure all equipment and facilities are kept clean and tidy and contamination control measures are in place to project a professional image.
  • Check and sign operators pre-start check lists and take immediate action where required.
  • Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Oversees work of contractors and ensuring compliance with Company rules, procedures and standards for undertaking specific work to be performed.
  • Adheres to the Company rules, procedures and standards pertaining to safety in areas of responsibility.

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Ten (10) years trade related work experience preferably in a mining environment, Five (5) of which must have been served at supervisory level.
  • MUST have experience on Sandvik, Atlas Corpco, Fermel, Epiroc and Bell equipment, preferably underground machinery.
  • Hands on experience of repairing large mining equipment.

  • Ability to competently operate a Microsoft Windows based personal computer with a reasonable proficiency in Microsoft Office / Outlook software.
