VACANCY: DEPUTY DIRECTOR – VETERINARY SERVICES – E2 (1 POST)
Applicants are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Deputy Director under Department of Veterinary Services on a contract of 24 to 36 months.
Salary Scale: E2 (P427, 860 – P445.176 per annum)
Leave: 30 working days per annum
I. For new entrants to the Public Service, a contract of 24 to 36 months with gratuity payable at the rate of 30%.
II. Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme with Botswana Public Officer Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) (Government pays 50% and the employee 50%). However, in the event the applicant has been subscribing to any other Medical Aid Schemes besides BPOMAS an option to continue membership with that Medical Scheme will be allowed. Government undertakes to contribute an amount equivalent to the portion that the employee would have been entitled to under BPOMAS.
Degree in Veterinary Medicine or related field.
A minimum of twelve (10) years’ experience in Veterinary Services, two (2) years of which must have been served as Chief Veterinary Officer on grade D1 or equivalent in the related fields.
Main Purpose of the Job
To coordinate and manage Department functions aimed at the prevention and control of animal diseases in Botswana.
Key Performance Areas
Provides professional advice and direction on livestock development and agricultural resource conservation policies, legislations, and strategies.
Advise the Director on relevant legislation revision on disease control strategies.
Engage relevant stakeholders to exchange information on the international disease situations. Supervises implementation of animal disease investigation, prevention and control programs Coordinates the maintenance of meat hygiene standards at abattoirs.
Liaises with neighboring countries on world animal disease situations.
Monitor and inspect disease control activities and presents progress reports to the Director.
