Condition Monitoring Specialist at SANDFIRE RESOURCES

The role requires extensive experience, technical proficiency, leadership skills, and commitment to safety these will be instrumental in managing maintenance activities, implementing condition monitoring programs, and fostering a culture of excellence within the mine.     

Key Performance Areas

Leadership and Team Management:

• Lead and supervise a team of skilled tradespeople, including fitters, boilermakers, riggers, lube technicians, reliability teams and crane operators, to execute maintenance activities effectively and efficiently.
• Provide training, guidance, coaching, and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Manage workload distribution, resource allocation, and scheduling to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.

Mechanical Maintenance:

• Utilise trade qualification and extensive experience in condition monitoring to diagnose and rectify complex mechanical issues across various equipment including Metso crushers, Metso mills, conveyors, pumps, Metso thickeners, Metso filters, Metso flotation cells and Mixtec agitators.
• Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime.
• Implement reliability-cantered maintenance strategies to enhance equipment reliability, lifespan, and performance.

Condition Monitoring and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):

• Implement and oversee condition monitoring programs, including vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis, to detect early signs of equipment degradation and prevent unplanned downtime.
• Utilize non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques such as magnetic particle inspection (MPI) and ultrasonic testing (UT) to assess the integrity of critical components and identify defects.
• Perform laser alignment on Equipment including Mill drive trains.

Maintenance Systems Management:

• Utilise maintenance management systems such as Pronto and Schedule workmate to plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to maintenance plans and optimizing resource utilisation.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and spare parts inventory to support decision-making and reporting.

Safety and Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies in all maintenance activities.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment for all employees and contractors.
• Promote a culture of safety awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance department.
• Development of safe work and operating procedures.

Technical Competencies

• Proven skill in budget preparation and defending the budget to management.
• Proficiency in maintenance management systems such as Pronto.
• Proficiency in non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques such as magnetic particle inspection (MPI) and ultrasonic testing (UT).

Qualifications & Experience

• Trade qualification in electro mechanical fitting or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical maintenance.
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience as Supervisor.
• Proven experience in plant commissioning
• Proven experience in condition monitoring
• Experience in implementing and overseeing condition monitoring programs, including vibration analysis, laser alignment, thermography, and oil analysis.
