The National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB) is a body corporate established under the
provisions of the National Arts Council of Botswana Act, No. 10 of 2020. The Council’s mandate
is to develop, promote and protect the creative and cultural sector of Botswana through policy,
legislation, industry facilitation and various partnerships, programmes, grants and initiatives.
The Council aims to transform the local creative and cultural sector by nurturing creative
excellence and preserving the nation’s rich cultural traditions with the ultimate goal of building
an inclusive, sustainable and prosperous sector.

As CEO, you will lead a dynamic Council committed to unlocking the sector’s full potential, enabling sustainable growth and positioning Botswana as a global hub for creativity and cultural excellence.

Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a visionary strategy for the arts and culture sector, aligned with national development and economic goals.
• Policy Advocacy: Serve as a champion for the creative sector, engaging with government, industry, and stakeholders to advocate for policies and resources that support the sector.
• Partnership Building: Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with local, national, and international arts and culture organisations, funders, and communities.
• Operational Excellence: Oversee the Council’s operations, ensuring efficient management, fiscal responsibility, and compliance with regulations.
• Cultural Stewardship: Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across all NACB initiatives, fostering a vibrant and representative arts ecosystem.
• Impact Measurement: Establish and track key performance indicators to assess the NACB’s impact on the arts and culture sector and society at large.

Key Qualifications
• A Master’s degree in humanities, liberal arts, social sciences, economics, commerce, business administration or related fields from a recognised institution.
• A minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience with at least five (5) years in executive leadership roles, ideally within the arts, culture or heritage sectors.
• Deep understanding of the arts and culture ecosystem, including funding mechanisms, artist development, and cultural policy. Strong advocacy and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
• Financial acumen, including experience managing budgets and securing funding.
• Passion for the creative sector and a commitment to fostering artistic innovation and cultural preservation.
