CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND
Lesbians, Gays & Bisexuals of Botswana (LEGABIBO) is an LGBTQ advocacy organisation at national and regional level. The organisation’s work began in 1998. and gained the right to register in 2016 through a litigation process. LEGABIBO’s work is focused on sexual orientation and gender identity advocacy and building a politically and socially conducive environment for LGBTQ persons.
At its heart LEGABIBO is an advocacy and human rights organisation with a long track record of community organising, research and strategic litigation in an effort to build an inclusive and non-discriminative society and defend the rights to the LGBTQ community. The organisation has engaged in research and documentation of our wider community’s issues and challenges, as well as engaging with regional and international human rights processes.

The organisation is looking for a driven, strategic, creative and skilled individual to join its dynamic team for the position of Chief Executive Officer.
Working closely with membership, the board, staff and volunteers; the Chief Executive Officer will lead the development and implantation of the new strategic plan; build and maintain stakeholder relationships in order to articulate the needs of the LGBTQ community.
MAIN DUTIES will be to:
•Ensure the communication and implementation of the organisation’s mission, vision and overall direction.
•Lead the development and implementation of the organisation’s strategy and create opportunities for its fulfilment.
•Support the Executive Board in resource mobilisation efforts for the organisation.
•Lead the development of annual work plans and budgeting for the organisation.
•Oversee the complete operation of the organisation in accordance with the direction established in the strategic plan.
•Enforce adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the organisation’s legality and business ethics.
•Build and maintain relations with key partners and stakeholders and act as a point of contact for key shareholders nationally, regionally and internationally.
•Analyse situations and occurrences in order to provide solutions to ensure the organization’s survival and growth.
•Evaluate the success of the organisation in reaching its goals and the LGBTIQ community.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
•Strong track record of political astuteness and advocacy skills.
•String track record in ensuring organisational governance and financial sustainability
•Experience in strategic leadership and organisational or sector development.
•Ability to inspire confidence and create trust within the Secretariat and memebership.
•Good people, management and interpersonal skills.
•Results oriented and performance driven.
•Ability to plan for work deliverables effectively, deliver under pressure and delegate as needed.
•Ability to think strategically.
•Project management skills.
•Computer literacy and knowledge of project and financial management systems.
•Problem-solving and analytical skills.
•Communication and negotiation skills.
•Leadership and Innovative skills.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Rights, Political/ Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender Studies and other similar disciplines.
•Experience working in civil society organisations.
•A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior management position.
•Membership(s) to professional bodies will be an added advantage.
•Experience in strategic leadership and organisational or sector development.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
A fixed term contract of up to three (3) years REMUNERATION: LEGABIBO as an NGO and dependence on donor funding has committed to offering remuneration that complements the market.
