Responsible for the management of business banking credit risk to enable the bank to make sound credit decisions, improve service and efficiency while managing credit quality. Communicates and implements credit policy especially relating to business banking to the Unit. Provides leadership, support and guidance to business analysts on difficult transactions and ensures that business originated is in accordance with the Credit Policy and Bank of Botswana Act. Engages in the training of loan origination staff on Business Banking products. Informs various credit committees on relevant issues, emerging trends, property, and market analysis. Makes credit, loan structure and workout plan recommendations. Ensures that loan underwriting reflects high professional standards in compliance with the relevant policies, procedures and regulations.


  • Ensure that credit applications and assessments in terms of tasks assigned, conform to/comply with the “Credit Risk Management Model” prescriptions with limited assistance to interpret credit policy issues.
  • Analyse business financial statements and cash flow models to be utilized in support of corporate/commercial loans, renewal requests, and amendments.
  • Stay up to date on economic and Credit Administration & Compliance Trends for designated geographic areas and industries.
  • Provide quality business and financial analysis for existing clients and improve turn around on credit requests.
  • Ensure that loan application assessments are prioritised and that they conform to credit application prescriptions and requirements.
  • Prepare trend analysis with situation updates and risk rating evaluation on an ongoing basis for assigned borrowers.
  • Research and document current policies relating to commercial credit risk and evaluate, draft, and recommend changes as needed to ensure that they continue to mitigate risk in the changing environment of the Bank and the industry.
  • Preparation and analysis of monthly Commercial Board Reports providing a summary of commercial relationships & status loans and industry.
  • Ensure that all securities cited and offered, considering repayment ability and risk involved, conform to Bank policies and requirements with limited comebacks/ referrals.
  • Aftercare of Credit Facilities in Arrear/ Excess.
  • Ensure that Business Banking is handled in a professional manner with correct advice, guidance, and accurate information.
  • Ensure that directives in respect of personnel administration are correctly followed and that documents are handed in timeously and correctly.

  • Tertiary education in Finance (B.Comm or similar).
