Auxiliary Plant Attendant at BOTSWANA POWER CORPORATION

Main purpose of the position

To operate and monitor Coal and Ash Plant auxiliaries and equipment at field in accordance with operating procedures to ensure the plant is running continuously at its optimal efficiency and maintain housekeeping standards for improved plant care and reliability.

Job Responsibilities

• Operates Coal and Ash Plant equipment and auxiliaries locally to ensure output is in accordance with set specifications.
• Monitors the performance of the running plant to identify faults/defects and correct them appropriately or reports major ones to the supervisor for remedial action and improvement of plant reliability by use of approved plant monitoring tools.
• Opens and closes valves in sequence upon signal from the Coal and Ash Plant Operator to start or shut down an auxiliary equipment to always ensure safe operation.
• Cleans auxiliary plant and equipment including the removal of spillages caused by process defects to prevent equipment failure or improve plant safety and care following approved housekeeping procedures.
• Initiates plant modification by recommending to the Supervisor for the purpose of improving the existing plant system and processes following laid down instructions.
• Keep equipment and tackles used in upkeeping the plant in a proper manner to avoid loss and assist on saving costs of replenishing before life-time following inventory management procedures.
• Carries out prestart, running, standby and shutdown plant routine checks to continuously be alert on plant condition and prevent problems from arising and ensure plant is always working effectively following laid down protocols.
• Collates auxiliary plant data accurately for performance monitoring and carry out elementary analysis for correction otherwise reports deviations to the Supervisor by use of plant log sheets and other approved tools.
• Collects and handles inputs consignment data accurately in accordance with material offtake and offloading procedures to allow for smooth reconciliation on material received by the Supervisor against the contractual agreements/obligations.
• Closes and opens of manual valves for issuance and cancellation of safety documents at Coal and Ash Plants under the direct supervision of Senior Authorised Person in charge

Qualifications

• Trade Test C in Mechanical or Electrical or equivalent
• OR BGCSE with 2 years Practical experience in Thermal Power Plant Operation (specific).
• Must obtain a Competency Person Certificate within 6 months of appointment.

Experience

• Entry Point only for Trade Test C.
• Atleast two (2) years experience in Thermal Power Plant Operation for BGCSE holders.
• Experience in handling Mechanical Equipment and Tools will be an added advantage.
