Purpose of the Role

To assist the General Manager in the direction and control of Jwaneng operations, with specific focus on coordinating & integrating all core operations functions, i.e. Engineering, Ore Processing, Mining, Mineral Resources Management and Underground interface in order to achieve set business targets for the operations, safely, cost effectively, with good controls, and through motivated teams.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates & integrates the activities of the Mining, Ore Processing, Engineering, Mineral Resources
  • Reviews and approves strategic business plans, production budgets and forecast plans, manpower plans and associated OPEX and CAPEX plans
  • Reviews performance against the above plans regularly to ensure delivery on the plans and appropriate mitigations for identified high risks
  • Reviews and tracks progress of short to medium term initiatives and plans to deliver on the operations strategic plans that are aligned to the company mid term strategy (e.g. HPO).
  • Manages people performance and development within the framework of the company talent management process
  • Reviews high risks and associated controls within the framework of the company risk management process, as well as managing key internal controls in these functions, to achieve a high degree of assurance within the operations
  • Directs and controls the safe and environmentally acceptable operation of all areas of the mines within the context of legal responsibility (6.1 appointee) and in accordance with the company ECOHS
  • Initiates and approves any significant policy/ Guideline/ Standards changes in these functions
  • Ensures operational readiness for implementation of major projects on the mines, with specific focus on Horizon 1
  • Assists the General Manager to address internal employee issues raised through the various internal employee engagement forums including the Union – Management engagements (ONCC/JNCC)
  • Chairs disciplinary appeals heard by Senior Managers and acts as complainant in any inquiries involving Senior Managers as defendants
  • Represents the General Manager in his/her absence, and carries out additional tasks as directed by the General Manager, such as attending Botswana Chamber of Mines forums, and any other external engagements. to disciplinary action

  • Bachelors Degree in Mining/ Ore Processing/ Engineering or Equivalent


At least 12 years post graduation, 5 of which must have been in a production position on a mine, and 3 of which must have been at a Senior Manager level

Legal Certification/Professional Registration
