JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, the Anaesthesiologist, plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and comfort of patients undergoing surgical procedures, childbirth, and other medical treatments requiring anaesthesia.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers various types of anaesthesia (general, regional, local) to patients based on their medical condition and the requirements of the procedure.
- Monitors patients before, during, and after anaesthesia to ensure their stability and well-being.
- Adjusts anaesthesia levels and medications as needed during surgical procedures to maintain patient safety and comfort.
- Collaborates closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare team members to develop anaesthesia care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Evaluates patients’ medical histories and current health status to determine the most appropriate anaesthesia techniques and medications.
- Manages pain relief and sedation for patients in intensive care units (ICUs), emergency rooms, and other clinical settings.
- Responds promptly to emergency situations by providing resuscitative measures and stabilizing patients as necessary.
- Maintains accurate records of anaesthesia administered, patient responses, and medications used.
- Stays informed about advancements in anaesthesia techniques, medications, and equipment to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
- Adheres to hospital policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements related to anaesthesia practices and patient safety
Requirements
ROLE REQUIREMENT:
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
- Completion of residency training in anaesthesiology
- Registration with the Botswana Health Professions Council
- License to practice as an Anaesthesiologist
