Purpose of the Role

To manage the accounting function of the company to ensure an effective accounting service.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manages and controls allocated funds and operates within approved parameters
  • Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets and controls expenditure within approved parameters
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives
  • Finalises and accumulates financial information to make adjustments, close and balance off General Ledger accounts and period end (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement)
  • Handles the coordination of external audit for the mine
  • Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Identifies and manages the implementation of and adherence to legislative and corporate governance requirements, including Group Accounting Policies and International Accounting Standards
  • Maintains and ensures adherence to the Group financial Reporting Calendar
  • Performs annual depreciation budgets and quarterly forecast
  • Performs month-end/Year-end reporting to Group including preparation of Reporting Packs and supporting schedules
  • Performs monthly depreciation runs, reallocations, exclusions and journal entries and checks for anomalies
  • Recommends changes to coding of General Ledger chart of accounts and associated cost centers and ensures proper alignment
  • Reviews general ledger reconciliations and ensures that corrective action is effected timeously
  • Manages subordinates key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
  • Collaborates with relevant stakeholders in establishing Functional Area specific policies and procedures and makes informed decisions and recommendations regarding existing policies

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates the implementation of safety, health and environmental programme in area of responsibility

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or equivalent

Experience

5 years accounting experience

 

Experience in month-end preparation of reporting packs/financial statements

Legal Certification/Professional Registration

  • Registration with the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA)
